We are seeking an experienced Front End Developer with an interest in GUI and Human-Computer Interaction design to take a lead role in the development of user friendly, attractive, and functional websites for our leading brands – 123-reg, Webfusion and Donhost.

Working as a member of the New Media team, alongside the technical development team and with the Marketing department, you will have a passion for usability, compatibility and accessibility, and an eye for improving web pages, visitor experience and sales revenue. A master of structured, standards compliant XHTML & CSS, you will produce pixel-perfect web pages and bring our designs to life. You should be able to realise a design from a .PSD file, produce style guides, and complete implementation. You should be able to prototype ideas and communicate and evaluate these efficiently

Bringing technical expertise and support to the design team you will code sophisticated user-interaction (using JavaScript, AJAX and jQuery) and server-side functionality (Template Toolkit, JSON API, .htaccess, SVN, PHP/ MySQL). You will be responsible for creating future-proof dynamic templates and content management systems, enabling the New Media department to work smarter.

TECHNICAL /PERSON SPECIFICATION:

Expert in XHTML/CSS (html5 and css3 included)
Expert in JavaScript, AJAX and jQuery
Fluent in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop and Fireworks), unix command line and SVN Desirable

Experience of any of the following technologies would be an advantage: MySQL, Linux (Debian), Perl, Catalyst framework.

Day to day tasks include: designing and building bomb-proof templates, server-side scripting, creating functional user interfaces, performing site and product updates, and supporting the marketing and design teams.

NECESSARY EXPERIENCE

Minimum 2 years web development experience as demonstrated through portfolio of work
Education to degree level or equivalent commercial experience
Must be able to choose right technology for the task and architecture code in order to achieve short development time and high code maintainability

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE

Usability and prototyping
Analytics packages knowledge (Google Analytics, DC-Storm)
Wordpress development
Integrate front end templates with backend RPC using JSON API and JavaScript
Integrate server-side with client code. Working with APIs to fetch data and convert it into interactive websites

PERSONAL SKILLS / COMPETENCES REQUIRED

Proven project management, interpersonal and organisational skills are essential
Demonstrate a natural flare for good web / graphic design and an eye for improving web pages
